Blogger Help

Do you have a blog?  Do you, like me, use Google's Blogger service to host and edit your blog?

If you answered "Yes" to these questions, then you are sure to find something useful or interesting on the Blogger FAQs site.

I've just used the instructions on how to remove the NavBar from this site, for a more professional looking Weblinks blog.

AFL 2009 Grandfinal - Geelong wins

Yesterday's Weblinks blog post was about getting info to watch, listen or keep updated on the big game.  Today's blog post is about the result (a close game with Geelong getting ahead in the last ten minutes to win by two goals over St Kilda).

Melbourne's two newspapers, the Herald-Sun and The Age have full reviews as well the Contested Footy blog site.  There's also some nice photos that have already been posted on flickr.

AFL Grandfinal

Tomorrow is the "One Day in September" of the AFL (Aussie Rules Football) grandfinal.  This year the two top teams to fight it out for the Premiership Cup are the StKilda Saints and the Geelong Cats.  You can get more info from the AFL website and follow the game live on the web, TV or radio.  The big game kicks off at 2:30PM local time (GMT+10hrs) Saturday 26th September at the MCG.  The weather forecast isn't too good for spectators, but the wet weather should make for an action packed game.

Vancouver Webcam

I love a good webcam.  Most are low resolution, but one of my favourite uses a digital camera (as apposed to an actual “webcam”) for a good quality snap of English Bay and “Downtown Vancouver”, every 15 minutes.

KatKam20092009

I like to use the URL above, but the actual image is from www.katkam.ca which can give you some interesting background information on the webcam site.

The webcam camera faces west, so you can view a Canadian sunset every day.

Checking the webcam image on a regular basis can result in some stark contrasts.

The latitude of Vancouver  means that the location of the setting sun, and the climate change dramatically over the year.  The beach in the foreground can be covered in snow, or people in shorts and t-shirts lapping up the Summer sun.

From time to time, you can also see special events, such as parades, fairs and fireworks.

Kids Math Magician Games

This is one for the kids, in fact I came across the link in my 9 year old's homework book.

The Oswego City School (New York) web site has a page of online Math games for the kids.  To us grown-ups, the maths games are pretty basic, but the format of a time limit to complete a number of sums with a printable certificate at the end, has the kids wanting to play again to either get a better percentage of sums correct or to achieve 100% in a quicker time.

Parents be warned, if your child doesn't challenge you to beat their maths score, eventually you will be tempted to have-a-go your self.  I strongly recommend you practice on the website alone, before allowing your child to see how rusty you've become with primary school maths!

Astronomy Picture of the Day

APOD - Astronomy Picture of the Day - has been on the web since June 1995, so it's almost as old as the internet its self.  The site is in a format similar to a blog, where everyday NASA posts a picture that has something to do with astronomy or space, whether it's a picture of deep space taken by the Hubble Telescope, or a pic of the International Space Station (ISS), a shuttle launch, or something astronomy related on Earth.  All pictures can be downloaded in high resolution, so can be saved for printing or just to make your computer wallpaper.
